New GMAU students often ask us whether they need to wear official uniforms when they train. Because all our programs are online, you'll mostly train at home. So, you don't have to wear a uniform. You can train in whatever you'd normally wear for a workout at the gym.

But if you want to wear a uniform to feel official when you train and look good for your grading instructor in your assignment and test videos, here's what we recommend:

  • Shotokan Karate: A uniform called a 'gi', with a white top, white pants, and a white (beginner's) belt.
  • Taekwondo: A uniform called a 'dobok', with a white top, white or black pants, and a white (beginner's) belt.
  • Krav Maga: A dark-colored t-shirt and black workout pants.
  • Muay Thai: A dark-colored t-shirt or tank top with dark-colored boxing shorts or workout pants.
  • Nunchaku: A gi or dobok, or a t-shirt and workout pants.
  • Ultimate Bo: A gi or dobok, or a t-shirt and workout pants.

Where to Buy

You can purchase a gi, dobok, workout pants, and boxing shorts at any well-equipped martial arts store near you. We also recommend Century Martial Arts for purchasing these items online. (Please note that Century also has Canadian and European websites.)

You can buy program patches (to place on your uniform) and GMAU-branded t-shirts, tops, workout pants, and shorts through the online GMAU store.
