To become a certified martial-arts instructor, you must have a black belt in the martial-arts style that you're going to teach and complete our Certified Martial Arts Teacher (CMAT) program.

Please note:

  • Anyone can enroll in the CMAT program, but you're not permitted to complete the assignments and final exam unless you meet all the requirements to be certified.
  • This is a self-paced course, so the more time you dedicate to going through the modules, assignments, and exams, the faster you will complete the course. Most candidates complete the course in about 3 months.
  • Becoming a CMAT does not make you an official instructor of the Global Martial Arts Association (GMAA) or the Global Martial Arts University (GMAU). Your CMAT certification will be accredited and awarded by the GMAA, but you will be solely responsible for your own curriculum, classes, and school operation from there on out. You will be listed as a CMAT graduate on the association's website but your school will not be an official GMAA or GMAU location. This is because you might teach a completely different style or curriculum than our instructors do.
  • There are no other fees for the CMAT. We don't require that you pay any monthly or yearly fees to maintain your CMAT certification.
